Kollision

Stage, Interior

Fuchsbau Festival 2016

Thinking about ideas and art forms challenging, questioning and even breaking existing norms, we conceived a new space and interior design referring to aesthetics of cage fights. We transformed the place into an underground arena: three meter high walls made of plastic foil canvases – looking like gymnastic mats –, two tribunes and a rubber floor center stage.

During the night, there was a wheeled black cage with shimmering wire-meshed walls and fog emerging from underneath the cage where the DJ*anes performed in. To be watched from every single angle. "Kollision" spatially transformed the cage fight reference to a question of power structures between artists and the public.

The DJ*ane booth was positioned below a four-screen display square, referring to sports events, showing visuals of Sofia Star and Dominic Korte. And finally the bar — a hole in the wall with the same fence as the "cage" — served the design concept, leaving open a small gap, just big enough to quickly and dirtily exchange drinks and money.

Our stage and interior design Kollision was part of Fuchsbau Festival 2016 edition “Die Hitze des Gefechts“, focussing on norm-breaking ideas and art forms. Besides performances by Amnesia Scanner, Kobe and the Young North German Philharmonic Orchestra, DJ*anes such as mobilegirl, Lucy or Subkutan were framed in Kollision to be our beautifully performing cage fighters.
