SURFACE

Approaching the topic of analog and digital realities, we decided to frame our stage design as both their juxtaposition and coming together. We covered the space in white by setting up 3 meter walls, topped by laser surfaces installed in the ceiling. Four laser projectors beamed blue triangles fusing with constant haze to shape a clear structured, yet diffuse cloudy space ceiling.

Once the shows were done, party nights over and plugs pulled, visitors were left in our SURFACE space uncovering its digital surface as superficiality: analog and basic white walls to every side.

The DJ*ane booth aimed to be a literal surface: the musicians were behind a half transmitting mirror, only to be seen when they’re illuminated. The bar on our SURFACE stage was a collaboration with Felina Levits, who also designed the bartenders’ workwear. The special liquor mixes, offering topic matching drinks like Display Port or Fullscreen, also color fitted to the space design. 

Our SURFACE stage and interior design was part of Fuchsbau Festival 2017 edition “splitter faser____“, focussing on the impact of digitalization regarding collectivity and singularity. Great artists like Ziur, Born in Flamez, Nene Hatun, zv_k, Deena Abdelwahed and many more performed on SURFACE. Aditionally there was a great program of talks and panels with Eva Illouz, Holly Herndon, Minna Salami and many more.
